H.M. Gordy
When Lorca Died in Granada
(During the Spanish Civil War, Federico Garcia Lorca
died mysteriously in Granada)
in the plaza
the fountain
no longer moon-white
as flesh on black silk
has fallen
into a thousand pale mouths
gushing the mind’s red flowers
birds fly
through the broken face
of day
dogs run confused
down antique streets
their muzzles covered
with the slobber of war
