Michael Bazzett
The Current Threat Level
is pale grey,
which is to say
not even close to orange,
which means
that the only flights today
will plunge
from the rain-darkened oaks

then open
into the mottled shape
of hawks―
Michael Bazzett is an NEA fellow & the author of three books of poems: You Must Remember This, (Winner of the 2014 Lindquist & Vennum Prize for Poetry); Our Lands Are Not So Different (Horsethief Books); and The Interrogation (Milkweed Editions). His work has appeared in Ploughshares, The Sun, The American Poetry Review, Tin House, and The Iowa Review. His translation of the Mayan creation epic, The Popol Vuh, is forthcoming from Milkweed Editions. Find out more at: michaelbazzett.com.
