Kevin McLellan
Floriculture
We are all already dead.
The flower box doesn’t care.
The seated man frequently raises one sinewy arm above his head.
The skin between bottom of tee shirt and top of jeans shows.
When he stands to leave the slack in the fold fills.
I want the petunias to care.
Kevin McLellan is the author of Hemispheres (Fact-Simile Press, forthcoming), [box] (Letter [r] Press, 2016), Tributary (Barrow Street, 2015), and Round Trip (Seven Kitchens, 2010). He won the 2015 Third Coast Poetry Prize and Gival Press’ 2016 Oscar Wilde Award, and his poems have appeared in several journals including: American Letters & Commentary, Colorado Review, Crazyhorse, Kenyon Review, Sonora Review, Thrush Poetry Journal, West Branch, Western Humanities Review, Witness. Kevin lives in Cambridge MA. Visit his website here: https://kevinmc66.wordpress.com/
