Maxwell Stenson

Ars Poetica

Tallac, larch, lurch,
repeal: every gem

jammed into place,
a corruption of tiaras.
Amidst the manna-beans
a dream unparalleled

swoops to procure the trimmings:
my wife of two hearts, her two tongues

clicking in the bridegroom light
these pretty horses should rise soon.

Maxwell Stenson earned his MFA from Saint Mary's College of California, where he also taught composition. He currently lives in Sacramento, California, and his work has appeared in Calaveras Station, and Sijo: an international journal of poetry and song.
