Adam Deutsch
Look into the Swell
It’s another of brighter days
designated specifically for rebirth.
The plan is to be,
with your other
or not,
near shore
in loosely sewn pants
when all we are pulled toward
is some reflected sky, bobbing
just out there.
Surfers of all sizes
peel down wetsuit tops,
shake water from their ears
like it’s only a moment before
their heads absorb the sea
and dissolve the core.
Adam Deutsch lives in San Diego, teaches college composition and writing, and has work recently or forthcoming in Arsenic Lobster, Thrush, Spinning Jenny, Ping Pong, and Typo. He is the publisher at Cooper Dillon Books, and has a chapbook from H_NGM_N Books called Carry On.
