Will Durham

Lungsong

everwarmth  soft hum jailbirds  and their  softly  pleated petticoats little picket sign legs picket fences to peer
over all the hollers  they go right overhead  no  worries paid no gutter  children  anymore it’s   a highway of
mattresses  and nightlights little  soothing wash of voices no  piano teeth  just jellyfish harpsichords marigold
retreats into the daily flutter like  a  deck of cards the trees leaves are  and after shuffling they hammock their
way down to the ground no child left wandering no more crying I promise no more offhandedness no more
the cat walks away yes wake up in childhood and stay there.
