Ciara Shuttleworth
Fall After Drought
Neglected houseplants go brilliant with bloom
before they wilt, die.
The wheat fields
are more vibrant this fall than ever,
the veins of the yellow leaves a brilliant red.
Ciara Shuttleworth’s poems have previously appeared or are forthcoming in The Southern Review, Los Angeles Review, The New Yorker, Alaska Quarterly Review, and Weber: the Contemporary West. Shuttleworth is a native of San Francisco but grew up in Nebraska, Nevada, and Washington State.
