What Another Mother
Yes, she laid her
spine in the silt, in
the rain-suck-swirl
by the reservoir, in
the cold that pickled her
fingertips. Her hair
spun a nest of twigs
and clay where she lay,
in a space so narrow
no coffee-maker or ringing
phone could be wedged
in. A hollow where she
used to be. I keep telling
the punch-drunk townies
that I never knew her,
but oh―
Dara-Lyn Shrager is the co-founder and editor of Radar Poetry. She holds an MFA from Bennington College. Her poems have appeared in Barn Owl Review, Salamander, Yemassee, The Greensboro Review, Zone 3, and Harpur Palate, among others. Recently, she was a finalist for the 2014 Better Prize in Poetry from Better Magazine. Her chapbook, The Boy From Egypt, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2009.
